In October 2010, a Motion for authorization to institute a class action was filed with the Superior Court of Québec on behalf of any person who purchased in Québec a cooling compressor and/or one or more products containing a cooling compressor and who has paid an inflated price because of an agreement to fix cooling compressors' price. The motion alleges, among other things, that certain manufacturers of this product conspired to unduly limit the competition and to unreasonably raise its price.
Cooling compressors are used in refrigerators and freezers. These devices absorb refrigerant gas (generally freon or isobutane), compress it, and move it to other components of the refrigerant system. When the compressed gas moves through and is permitted to expand, it removes heat from its surroundings, producing a cooling effect. Cooling compressors are generally considered as the heart of every refrigerator and freezer.
This class action is led by Belleau Lapointe, LLP.
